Secrets of the Char-Broil All-Stars: Maintenance

By on May 3, 2012
When I think of spring grilling I think first of preparing my grill that’s been in storage all winter. That means cleaning and checking it for needed repairs.  I remember that any appliance routinely exposed to extreme temperatures will eventually have stress cracks and metal fatigue – so I check these areas often throughout the season too. Of course you most likely did a complete field breakdown of your grill last fall prior to storing it securely for the winter – and ordered replacement parts, etc. Maybe even took a few hours on one particularly slow Saturday to use the Emory cloth and got rid of rust that was beginning to form on sections where it was appropriate to do so, used high-heat paint to re-paint surfaces that had scratches  and ordered replacement parts. Right? Here are some helpful tips and answers to the most often asked questions of Char-Broil customer service.

  1. in reference to oppions about Char-Broil! people commented and said that they were made in Cina and cut a lot of corners in materials to last longer they are absalutly right about that. They just do not last long as i live in New York where the weather is more cold in the winter and store it in my screen house with the proper cover for it and it still rusts faster only lasts maybe 2 years the most. Maybe i should buy a Ducane grill they warrenty everything that i know of.

  2. I need to order a gauge for my gas tank Please advise

    • It sounds like you want to install a pressure gauge in the line between your propane tank and the connector hose that has the regulator on it. If I’ve guessed correctly – these are available at most big box hardware home stores and online. Just an aside for your thinking machine: the Char-Broil LIVE Community Forum members have decided the best way to tell how much propane is in the tank is by weight. You purchase propane by weight, not volume or pressure. There are several ways to accomplish the task of identifying the weight – but the easiest, most accurate and relatively inexpensive method the members of the forum found was a product called Grill Gauge. It kinda sorta looks like a fish scale (the weighing kind, not the skin-scale kind) and they keep it handy to measure weight from the first cook…how does that sound? I believe these units are sold at most retail stores that carry propane tanks, etc. or – of course – online.

  6. We bought a new Grill Master, and just finished putting it together.

The grill was made in China, and there are lots of fingerprints on the stainless steel surfaces. Your instruction booklet recommends using lukewarm water with dishwasher liquid, but that fingerprints are tough to remove.

Can you recommend a stainless steel cleaner that will do the job?
